Overview
Health and Safety is a vital aspect of laboratory work where individuals are exposed to biological, chemical and physical hazards. As well and keeping yourself and others safe, there are also legal requirements for health and safety in the laboratory, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) state that “All workers are entitled to work in environments where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled. Under health and safety law, the primary responsibility for this is down to employers."

This course will be delivered over Zoom. The morning session will address the essentials of risk assessment, focusing in particular on the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, and will also include aspects of spills management in laboratories. The afternoon session will focus on two further aspects of health and safety management: accident investigation, and audits and safety inspections.
