Natural Capital Initiative Workshop: Balancing climate, food and nature policy targets across the UK
An online workshop discussing how to balance climate, food and nature policy targets across the UK.

Details

When? Tuesday 23 June 2026, 10:00 to 12:00
Where? Online

An online workshop discussing how to balance climate, food and nature policy targets across the UK.

Balancing the need to tackle the climate crisis, guarantee resilient domestic food production, and to reverse biodiversity decline is one of the most pressing challenges facing the UK policy sector. This workshop will discuss the role of current policy frameworks in tackling the issues mentioned and show opportunities and barriers for addressing these (potentially) contrasting goals.

This workshop will also debate the importance of landscape attributes as a critical element for farmland biodiversity, and how to sustain multifunctional landscapes whilst meeting net zero, biodiversity and food security policy targets, operating with the right collective public and private incentive schemes, including areas like insurance.

The Natural Capital Initiative is a three way partnership between the Royal Society of Biology, James Hutton Institute, and the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH). The aim of the NCI is to support decision-making that results in the sustainable management of our natural capital, facilitating dialogue between people from academia, policy, business and civil society.
